Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek: Dallas Elegance with a Storied Past
Nestled in the heart of Uptown Dallas, the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek stands as a testament to timeless elegance and Southern charm. With its rich history, exquisite dining, and luxurious accommodations, it's no wonder this mansion-turned-hotel remains a favorite among discerning travelers.
A Glimpse into History
Originally constructed in 1925 as a private residence for cotton magnate Sheppard W. King, the mansion was inspired by the grandeur of European estates. King and his wife, Bertha Wilcox, embarked on a European tour with their architect, curating antique pieces and authentic fixtures to adorn their new home. The result was a palatial estate that quickly became the epicenter of Dallas's social scene, hosting luminaries like President Franklin D. Roosevelt and playwright Tennessee Williams.
Transformation into a Luxury Hotel
In 1979, the Rosewood Corporation acquired the estate, envisioning a world-class hotel and restaurant. After a meticulous $21 million renovation, The Mansion Restaurant debuted in 1980 to critical acclaim. A year later, the adjacent hotel opened its doors, offering 143 guest rooms and suites that seamlessly blended modern luxury with the mansion's historic charm.
Culinary Excellence at The Mansion Restaurant
Dining at The Mansion Restaurant is an experience in itself. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Charles Olalia since October 2023, the restaurant has seen a revitalization, blending classic Texan flavors with Filipino influences. Signature dishes include lobster-filled lumpia topped with caviar and rice flour-fried quail. Eater Dallas
