Exploring Copenhagen’s Charm

Copenhagen is a city filled with good food, beautiful people and, of course, its many bikes. Your trip to this charming Scandinavian capital needs to be accompanied by a stay at the Axel Guldsmeden hotel. Its perfectly central location is essential for a weekend trip as it allows you to get anywhere in the city with ease. With its eccentric Balinese decor, eco-friendly rooftop spa and luxurious canopy-covered beds, Axel Guldsmeden is the place to stay in Copenhagen.

The Place to Be: Christiania

Once a military base, Freetown Christiania is now a sovereign state with rules of its own. This vibrant, autonomous part of Copenhagen is known for its artistic residents with unique lifestyles. This ‘hippie’ area of town makes the most of everything. In fact, we visited an old church that’s been renovated into a colorful pub. Christiania is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you can’t miss.

Must-eats: Restaurant Barr

As we all know, Copenhagen’s food scene is top tier. This classic Scandinavian restaurant lies on Copenhagen’s waterfront. With the combination of comforting Danish food and the most welcoming staff, Restaurant Barr is a must-eat when visiting the city. Not only did we love the rustic decor, the unique culinary creations were also life changing. If you want an unforgettable culinary experience, order the grilled Belgian waffles with smoked marrow, kalix løjrom, dill and sour cream. This was our favorite!

E-Bike Tour:

Following all the wine and food you’ll be enjoying, an e-bike tour around the city is necessary. Visiting must-see spots such as the Amalienborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, Botanical Gardens and, of course, The Little Mermaid statue, these friendly tour guides will give you the history of the entire city in just two hours. This was one of the best parts of our trip!

Pompette & Lille Blå Vinbar

These two chic wine bars stand out among the countless in Copenhagen. Pompette (translated to ‘tipsy’ in French), which offers only natural wine, is located in the hip neighborhood of Nørrebro and is surrounded by exceptional restaurants. For a pre-dinner snack, order the simple ricotta & anchovies with a side of their mouthwatering bread. Finish it off by biking or driving a short 10 minutes to Lille Blå Vinbar. Meaning ‘little blue,’ this wine bar is exactly as it sounds: little and blue. These cute and cozy wine bars should be at the top of your list!

Copenhagen is truly a Scandinavian gem. Its beautiful architecture, delicious cuisine and friendly Danish company make the trip worthwhile. With their extremely high quality of life, it’s no wonder the capital has visitors from all over the world. We look forward to visiting again soon!
